Throughout 2007-08 the Social Sciences Division sponsored a major programme of academic events examining some of the most pressing issues of global governance. In order to seek answers to these problems, the programme drew on Oxford’s extraordinarily rich array of intellectual resources and on-going research into many of the most important issue-areas of global governance and global public policy. These included: human security and the changing character of war and violent conflict; the governance and regulation of the global economy; environmental regulation and global environmental change; global public health; energy policy; and migration.
The programme highlighted the work of leading Oxford academics from a wide range of social science disciplines, provided a forum for cross-disciplinary debate amongst doctoral students, and brought to Oxford a series of outstanding visiting speakers.
The programme was directed by Prof. Andrew Hurrell.
